12 Session COVID Training Program (Ages 5 - 8)

This 12 week training cycle is set out in a circuit style training plan and the field/training area is split into 3 stations with a coach on each station. These activities are designed to last 15 mins each with the session being around 45min total. However, including drinks breaks (between activities), change over of groups and activity explanation, most will only last 10-15mins. In my experience coaches should stay on one station throughout and the groups should rotate. These activities are planned for up to 15 players however most can easily be completed with less. This cycle works on the four core skills: striking the ball, running with the ball, 1v1s and 1st touch.

With this age group, It is important that the areas are appropriately sized. When there are finishing exercises or any activity using a goal make sure that every player is capable of reaching the goal. It is also important that the players are grouped appropriately so that the activities are beneficial for all. Furthermore, during this time and with players of this age, it is important to remind them that they are not allowed to touch each other. A good way to remind them is to have younger players to put their arms out like a plane. If they are touching another player, they are too close.
